A fantastic idea that's loaded with fun! When arranging the decorating table, use your cupcake pans as a holder for the toppings. Fill each pan with all the different toppings for the kids to pick from. Put plastic spoons with it for the kids to use. It keeps everything together and makes it easier for the kids to pick what they'd like on their cupcakes.
Popular cupcake toppings include crushed cookies and candy bars like Oreos and Butterfingers, sprinkles, jimmies, gummies (especially worms and fish), marshmallows, gumdrops, M&Ms, coconut (tinted), jelly beans, licorice, Skittles, chocolate chips and dragees.

Yum! Plum Cake

Agnieszka made this yummy plum cake. By inserting plum halves into the surface of the batter, she was able to achieve a beautiful lattice effect. It makes for a stunning presentation of a most delicious cake.
Ingredients:
1 packet margarine (or butter)
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
3 eggs
3 tablespoons thick cream
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 kg plums
Preparation:
Cream together margarine and sugar until fluffy. Gradually add egg yolks, cream, baking soda, and sieved flour. Beat egg whites to a froth and add to the mixture. Turn the batter into a greased pan. Cut plums into halves, press them into the batter. Bake in a pre-heated 160C oven until it tests done (about 45 minutes should be enough, it depends on your oven).
Thanks Agnieszka for sharing your recipe, your mouth-watering photos and for saving us a slice!

Spurrier A Spoilsport?
Ron Higgins for www.commercialappeal.com
Steve Spurrier keeps shaking things up just prior to his debut as South Carolina's coach on Thursday night against Central Florida.
Spurrier is stopping the Gamecocks' tradition of receiving baked goods from fans following Thursday practices during game weeks.
"We have eliminated that Thursday deal they have here, the fans giving them cookies and cakes and all that," Spurrier said. "We don't need a lot of cookies on Thursday afternoon before games."

Going For Guiness: 20,000 Candles Will Top Giant Cake
CFCN.ca Wednesday, August 31
A giant cake is being assembled in SAIT just in time for Alberta's birthday. When students are done, the cake will be 15 feet wide by 30 feet long. Organizers will then attempt to light 20,000 candles on the cake. If they are successful, it will be a new guiness world record.
I wish the students much luck with the cake and candle lighting but they will have to increase the number of candles if they want to top the current Guiness record holder. In New York on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005 Ashrite Furman organized the lighting of 27,000 birthday candles in honor of spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy's 74th birthday.

Trans Fat-Free Margarine for Cake Makers
While trans fat-free margarine has been on the market for some time now, this is the first time the product has been specifically geared toward cake makers. The effort to take the trans fat out of cakes moves forward as bakers can now choose trans fat-free products like Crisco's trans fat-free shortening and BakeMark UK's non-hydro alternative to its cake margarine Marvello.
Lindsey Partos for www.FoodNavigator.com
UK bakery ingredients BakeMark UK firm rolls out a trans fat-free margarine for cake makers, the latest in a series of launches as the firm sets to phase out hydrogenated fats from its entire manufactured product range by the end of 2005.
The product, like its hydrogenated counterpart, offers a “smooth, butter-like flavour and colour”, they add.
"We anticipate a high take up particularly from larger cake manufacturers, looking to present not only healthier content in their product but also a clearer labelling statement," says Kerrie Medlicott, BakeMark UK's head of marketing.
