My husband has a cell phone plan that offers him a shiny new phone every two years if he commits to yet another 2 years. In other words he's contracted to stick with that carrier for 24 months or get stuck with a cancelation fee. Additionally, the amount he pays for his coverage is $50 a month, and would you believe that's just talk time? He get's charged extra if he sends or receives a text message. That's just plain nuts. I guess you could say he fell for their bate hook, line and sinker. I'm anxiously awaiting for his current contract to end so we can find him a better option.
I've personally been contract-free for several years now. Not with the same carrier mind you. I shop around and do what feels right at the time. Frugality is my middle name. I'm pretty sure my birth certificate can confirm that... if I could only find it! lol
I've been invited to look at Straight Talk today, which isn't something I'd been all that familiar with. I do recall walking past their kiosk a time or two... perhaps you've seen it at Walmart? Basically it's a contract free plan that offers you unlimited talk , text, and web usage for just $45 a month. If you decide to later take another route and drop the coverage, there are absolutely no cancelation fees. What's more, there are no activation or reactivation fees.
Imagine... you'll call a friend and not have to worry about how long you're chatting. It used to be that no contract meant a prepaid phone which is what I had for 2 years. I had to always worry about how many minutes I was using before my call would be dropped. Not fun.
Straight Talk also offers refurbished phones for as little as $10 a piece. They even offer Smart Phones! So it sorta feels like with Straight Talk you'll have everything you need. Oh... and if you're worried about credit checks, they won't! lol They don't do that. So if your past has been challenging, you're all good!
